Hemp Dosing Guide — Find Your Right Dose Across All Formats | Gold Naturals
This is the practical guide to dosing Gold Naturals hemp products — across all four formats (gummies, tinctures, softgels, salve), all three potency tiers (microdose / 5mg / 10mg), and all three use cases (Sleep, Stress, Muscle + Joint). Use it as a reference; bookmark it; reread it when you're ready to step up or stack products.
The single most important sentence in this guide: start low, work up, and give each step at least 5–7 days of consistent use before judging whether it works. Hemp cannabinoids build a baseline rather than hit as a one-shot intervention. The most common dosing mistake is taking one serving, feeling nothing dramatic, and concluding "it doesn't work."
Quick reference: how much to take
By format
| Format | Typical dose | Onset | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tincture (sublingual) | 1 dropper (1ml) | 15–30 min | 4–6 hrs |
| Soft gel capsule | 1 capsule | 45–90 min | 6–8 hrs |
| Gummy | 1 gummy | 45–90 min | 6–8 hrs |
| Salve (topical) | Thin layer to affected area | 15–30 min | 4–6 hrs locally |
By potency tier (Sleep/Stress/M+J gummy line)
| Tier | Δ9 per serving | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Microdose | 2mg | First-time users; sub-perceptual entourage support; daily wellness |
| 5mg Utah | 5mg | Daily routine; Utah customers; established users |
| 10mg standard | 10mg | Experienced users; non-Utah states; deeper effect |
See our microdose THC explainer for detail on the microdose tier.
By tincture potency (Sleep/Stress/M+J tincture line)
| Tier | Per 1ml dropper | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Light | ~33mg CBD + supporting cannabinoids | First-time users; finding your dose |
| Medium | ~67mg CBD + supporting cannabinoids | Most adults — research-supported sweet spot |

By use case
Sleep
- Microdose Sleep gummy — 1 gummy, 60 min before bed (2mg Δ9 + 10mg CBN + 67mg CBD)
- 5mg Utah Sleep gummy — 1 gummy, 60 min before bed (5mg Δ9 + 20mg CBN + 40mg CBD)
- 10mg Sleep gummy — 1 gummy, 60 min before bed (10mg Δ9 + 20mg CBN + 100mg CBD)
- Sleep tincture (Medium) — 1 dropper, 45 min before bed
- Sleep softgel (Medium) — 1 capsule, 90 min before bed
Universal Sleep rule: take 45–90 minutes before you want to be asleep. Edibles onset slowly; if you take one as you get into bed, you'll be staring at the ceiling when it kicks in. Sublingual tinctures are faster (15–30 min) but the 45-minute lead time still produces deeper sleep onset.

Stress (daytime)
- Watermelon Stress Microdose gummy — 1 gummy, morning with food (2mg Δ9 + 67mg CBD)
- Stress tincture (Medium) — 1 dropper, morning with breakfast (67mg CBD)
- Stress softgel (Medium) — 1 capsule, morning with breakfast
- Pre-event (presentation, flight, social): 1 dropper of Medium tincture 30–60 min before
Universal Stress rule: consistency matters more than timing. Take at the same time each day for 5–7 days before judging. CBD's stress effect builds with daily consistency rather than working as a one-shot.

Muscle + Joint (recovery + chronic pain)
- Muscle + Joint Salve — thin layer to affected area, every 4–6 hours as needed (topical, no systemic absorption)
- Microdose M+J gummy (Blood Orange) — 1 gummy daily, morning (2mg Δ9 + 17mg CBG + 50mg CBD)
- 5mg Utah M+J gummy — 1 gummy daily, morning or post-workout
- 10mg M+J gummy — 1 gummy daily, morning or post-workout
- M+J tincture (Medium) — 1 dropper, morning with breakfast
Universal M+J rule: CBG effects build with 1–2 weeks of consistent daily use. If you only take it after the worst days, you're underutilizing the formula. For acute pain, combine systemic (gummy/tincture) with topical (salve) for the best coverage.

Daily baseline (cross-use)
- Entourage Booster Tincture — 1 dropper, morning (2.5mg Δ9 + 21mg CBD + 5mg CBC)
- Entourage Booster Softgels — 1 capsule, morning with vitamins
The Booster is the daily-baseline product if you don't have a specific Sleep/Stress/M+J focus.
The dose-finding methodology
Use this 4-step process to find your right dose. Recommended starting point: the Sample Pack — 9 single-dose vials across Light/Medium/Heavy tiers, designed for exactly this exercise.
Day 1–2: Try Light. Take at your usual target time (morning for Stress, bedtime for Sleep, post-workout for M+J). Notice what you feel. Note onset time, peak effect, duration.
Day 3–4: Try Medium. Same time. Compare to Day 1–2. Was Light enough? Did Medium feel meaningfully different?
Day 5–6: Try Heavy. Same time. Now you have a three-tier comparison.
Day 7–10: Use remaining vials at your chosen tier to verify consistency. The "right" tier is the one where the effect felt complete but not excessive.
Day 11+: Commit to a 1oz bottle at your chosen tier — or stay on the gummy/softgel format if that worked better.
Timing and food
| Rule | Why |
|---|---|
| Take with a small amount of fat | Cannabinoids are fat-soluble — absorption is 2–4× more consistent with food than empty-stomach |
| Same time each day | Builds a steady cannabinoid baseline; effects compound vs irregular dosing |
| Don't redose too soon | Edibles onset 45–90 min; the most common mistake is taking a second dose before the first kicks in |
| Hold tinctures under tongue 60–90 sec | Sublingual absorption bypasses first-pass liver metabolism; produces faster, more potent effect |
| No alcohol immediately before/after | Doesn't make hemp dangerous, but does change absorption and can intensify drowsy effect |
Stacking patterns
If you're using more than one of our products, here are the patterns customers find effective:
AM/PM split
- Morning: Stress tincture or softgel (CBD-forward, non-impairing)
- Evening: Sleep gummy or tincture (CBD + CBN)
Daily baseline + as-needed
- Daily: Booster Tincture or Booster Softgels (microdose baseline)
- As needed: Sleep gummy on harder sleep nights; salve on sore days
Chronic pain stack
- Daily: M+J tincture (Medium) — systemic anti-inflammatory baseline
- As needed: M+J salve to specific hot spots
- Optional: M+J gummy at 5mg Δ9 for evenings when soreness keeps you up
Microdose entourage stack (Booster + use-case)
- Booster Tincture daily as baseline
- + Sleep Microdose gummy at night if needed
- + Stress Microdose gummy for stressful days
- + M+J Salve to specific hot spots
Don't stack
- Don't double up the same product without waiting full onset (45–90 min for edibles, 15–30 for tinctures)
- Don't stack Δ9 above 20mg/day unless you're a cannabis-tolerant user
- Don't stack with alcohol — see above
- Don't stack with prescription sedatives (Ambien, benzodiazepines, etc.) without talking to your doctor
Drug-test guidance
Every Gold Naturals product that contains Δ9 — including the microdose tier at 2mg per serving — will accumulate THC metabolites with daily use and can trigger a positive on standard urine drug screens.
The only drug-test-safe option in our line is the Muscle + Joint Salve — topical application doesn't deliver THC systemically and produces no detectable metabolites in standard screens.
If you're employment-tested and need:
- Recovery/pain support: use the salve
- Sleep or stress support: there's currently no drug-safe ingestible option in our line (CBD isolate products are in development for 2027)
- Day-of pre-test stress relief: unfortunately we don't have an option; talk to us about CBD isolate availability if/when it's ready
Common dosing mistakes
- Taking one dose and concluding "it doesn't work." Most effects require 5–7 days of consistent use. Some (CBG anti-inflammatory) require 1–2 weeks.
- Starting too low. A 5mg CBD gummy is below the threshold where research shows CBD consistently works. If you started at the lowest possible dose and felt nothing, you may have been below the effective range — try Medium next, not "half a Light."
- Starting too high. A first-time user taking 10mg Δ9 is much more likely to have an uncomfortable experience than to have a great one. Start at Microdose or 5mg, not 10mg.
- Inconsistent timing. Cannabinoids build a baseline. Taking one dose every few days produces erratic effects; taking the same dose at the same time every day produces a steady effect.
- Stacking too soon. First time taking a gummy AND a tincture? Try them separately first. Stack only after you know each one's individual effect.
- Mixing with alcohol. Doesn't make hemp dangerous, but does compound drowsy effects and changes how you experience the cannabinoids — likely not what you wanted.
- Ignoring food. Empty-stomach hemp dosing produces less consistent effects. Take with a small amount of fat for steady absorption.
- Expecting a "high." Most Gold Naturals products are not designed to produce a recreational high. If you want a perceptible effect, the 10mg standard tier is the threshold; below that you're getting wellness benefits, not recreation.
⚠️ A note about November 12, 2026
The dosing guidance on this page assumes the products are available. After November 12, 2026, the federal hemp redefinition (Public Law 119-37 Section 781) caps total THC at 0.4mg per container — most current products become non-compliant. We're developing CBD isolate alternatives for 2027 launch.
Frequently asked questions
How long does CBD last?
4–8 hours depending on format. Tinctures: 4–6 hours. Gummies and softgels: 6–8 hours. Salve: 4–6 hours locally where applied.
Can I take CBD every day?
Yes, with minimal tolerance buildup at typical wellness doses. Some users take a 1–2 day break weekly to reset; others take it consistently with no issue. CBN and Δ9 build tolerance faster than CBD; taking those as-needed rather than nightly is the recommended pattern.
How long does CBD stay in your system?
Detectable in urine 3–15 days after last use for occasional users; 30+ days for heavy daily users. This is about THC metabolites (which standard drug tests look for), not CBD itself. CBD alone (true isolate) is generally not detected.
Can I overdose on CBD?
The therapeutic index for CBD is very wide. The WHO's 2018 review concluded CBD has a "good safety profile" with no documented lethal dose. Excessive use can cause GI side effects, drowsiness, and in rare cases liver enzyme elevation at very high doses (>300mg/day for extended periods).
Can I drive after taking CBD?
Yes for pure CBD at typical doses (non-impairing). No for any product containing Δ9 THC — including our microdose tier — even though the dose is sub-perceptual. Federal and state DUI laws cover any substance that could impair driving; better to plan accordingly.
Should I take CBD with food?
Yes. Cannabinoids are fat-soluble; absorption is significantly more consistent with food (small amount of fat is enough — handful of nuts, breakfast with eggs, square of dark chocolate).
What's the difference between Light, Medium, and Heavy tinctures?
Total cannabinoid content per dropper. Light: lowest dose for new users. Medium: research-supported sweet spot for most adults. Heavy: highest dose for chronic conditions or experienced users. The cannabinoids in each (CBD, CBN, CBG) scale together.
How do I know which tier I'm in?
The Sample Pack is the most efficient way — 9 single-dose vials across all three tiers. Try one tier per day across the first week; the right tier feels complete without feeling excessive.
Do I need to refrigerate Gold Naturals products?
No, but keep them in a cool dark place away from direct sunlight. Cannabinoid stability is best at 60–75°F. Refrigeration is fine but not required. Avoid storing in hot cars or near heat sources.
