CBD for Sleep: Tinctures, Softgels & Gummies in 2026
Last updated: May 14, 2026 · Made in American Fork, Utah · Lab-tested every batch
The most-asked question we get: "What's the best CBD for sleep?" The honest answer is that it depends on your sleep problem. CBD tinctures work fastest (15–30 minutes) and are best for sleep-onset trouble. CBD softgels last longest (6–8 hours) and are best for staying asleep. Full-spectrum sleep gummies pair CBD with CBN and a small dose of THC — they're best for full-night sleep architecture support. All three are below.
We've shipped sleep formulations to over 10,000 customers since 2019. The single highest-retention product in our catalog is Sleep Softgels (19% subscription churn, vs the category average of 38%). The single highest-revenue product is the 5 mg Entourage Δ9 × Sleep Gummy. Both are linked below.

Does CBD help with sleep?
Research on CBD for sleep is early but encouraging. The largest published case series (Shannon 2019) found that 66.7% of patients with anxiety-related sleep complaints reported improved sleep scores within the first month of CBD use. CBD does not act as a direct sedative — instead, it appears to support sleep indirectly by reducing the anxiety and physical tension that interfere with falling asleep. The cannabinoid that's gained the most attention specifically for sleep architecture is CBN (Kolobaric 2024) — most modern sleep formulations pair CBD and CBN together for that reason.
Two important honesty caveats:
- CBD is not a sleep drug. It is a dietary supplement. It is not approved by the FDA to treat any sleep disorder. If you have diagnosed insomnia, sleep apnea, restless legs syndrome, or any other sleep disorder, talk to a licensed clinician before relying on CBD as your primary intervention.
- Effects compound over 7–14 days. CBD does not work like melatonin (which causes near-immediate sleepiness in many people). Most customers report a noticeable change in sleep quality between night 5 and night 10 of consistent dosing.
⚠️ Not medical advice. Consult a licensed clinician for any persistent sleep complaint.
What's the best CBD product for sleep?
**The best CBD product for sleep depends on which part of sleep is broken. For trouble falling asleep, use a fast-onset tincture under the tongue 30 minutes before bed. For trouble staying asleep, use a softgel for sustained 6–8 hour release. For both, use a full-spectrum gummy that pairs CBD with CBN and a low dose of THC for full-night sleep architecture.**| Sleep problem | Best format | Onset | Duration | Our product |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Trouble falling asleep | Tincture (sublingual) | 15–30 min | 4–6 hr | Sleep Tincture — Tropical Orange |
| Trouble staying asleep | Softgel (oral) | 60–90 min | 6–8 hr | Sleep Softgels (Medium / Heavy) |
| Both — full-night support | Full-spectrum gummy | 45–60 min | 6–8 hr | 5 mg Entourage Δ9 × Sleep Gummy |
| Anxiety-driven racing thoughts at bedtime | Tincture + breathing routine | 15–30 min | 4–6 hr | Sleep Tincture or Stress Tincture earlier in the evening |
| Drug-tested at work | Topical only — sleep ingestibles all contain THC | n/a | n/a | See Muscle + Joint Salve for THC-safe topical use; ingestible sleep products may affect drug-test results |
If you're not sure where to start: our Sleep Softgels (Medium) are the most-popular sleep product — predictable dosing, the lowest subscription churn in our entire catalog. Like all Gold Naturals ingestibles, these are full-spectrum hemp and contain a microdose of THC. If you're drug-tested for work, see the disclaimer below before using.
⚠️ All Gold Naturals ingestible products are full-spectrum hemp and contain at least a microdose of THC. Drug-tested customers should not consume ingestible products without first verifying with their employer's policy. Topical products (Muscle + Joint Salve) applied to skin do not produce detectable systemic THC and don't typically affect drug-test results.
CBD vs CBN for sleep — what's the difference?
CBD (cannabidiol) is the most-studied non-intoxicating cannabinoid; it supports sleep indirectly by reducing anxiety and physical tension. CBN (cannabinol) is a minor cannabinoid that's gained recent attention for direct sleep architecture support — modest sedative effect and evidence (Kolobaric 2024) suggesting it may extend deep-sleep duration. The two work better together than either alone — which is why modern sleep formulations are usually CBD+CBN, not CBD alone.
What we recommend:
- For anxiety-driven sleep trouble: CBD-dominant with a smaller CBN dose. The CBD does the heavy lifting; CBN is a finishing note.
- For trouble staying asleep through the second half of the night: CBD+CBN+small Δ9, the full-spectrum entourage formula. This is the formulation in our flagship gummy.
- For drug-tested customers: ingestible sleep products are not appropriate — all current Gold Naturals ingestibles are full-spectrum and contain THC. Talk to your employer before consuming. Topical-only options (like Muscle + Joint Salve) do not produce drug-test positives.

CBD sleep tincture — when to use it
A CBD sleep tincture is the fastest-onset format for sleep support. Held sublingually (under the tongue) for 60 seconds, a tincture begins working in 15–30 minutes — the fastest of any oral CBD format. Tinctures are best for trouble falling asleep, racing thoughts at bedtime, and inconsistent sleep schedules where you need predictable timing.
Our Sleep Tincture — Tropical Orange (Heavy / 30 mL) is a CBD+CBN sublingual formulation:
- 1,500 mg CBD + 300 mg CBN per 30 mL bottle (50 mg CBD + 10 mg CBN per 1 mL serving)
- Tropical Orange flavor — most-requested in customer surveys
- MCT oil base for sublingual absorption
- Third-party COA on every batch
- Subscription available — 15% off, cancel anytime
Standard protocol: 1 mL (one full dropper) held under the tongue for 60 seconds, 30 minutes before bed. If you wake at 3am with racing thoughts, a half-dropper at that point is often enough to get you back to sleep.
CBD sleep softgels — when to use them
CBD sleep softgels are the most predictable format for sleep support and the best choice for trouble staying asleep. A softgel is digested over 60–90 minutes and releases CBD steadily for 6–8 hours — covering the back half of the night that tincture-format products can't reach. Softgels are also the easiest format for consistent nightly dosing, which is why they have our lowest subscription churn.
Our Sleep Softgels come in two strengths:
- Medium (25 mg CBD + 5 mg CBN per softgel, 30-count) — best first product for most customers.
- Heavy (50 mg CBD + 10 mg CBN per softgel, 30-count) — for tolerance-built customers or larger body weight.
- Multiple strength options (Light / Medium / Heavy) — all full-spectrum, all contain microdose THC. Light is the lowest THC option in the line.
- 19% subscription churn — the lowest in our entire catalog. Customers stay on this product because it consistently works.
Standard protocol: one softgel with a glass of water, 60–90 minutes before your target sleep time. Most customers find Medium sufficient; if you've used CBD for 2+ weeks at Medium and aren't getting full-night coverage, step up to Heavy rather than doubling the Medium dose.
Full-spectrum sleep gummies — when to use them
Full-spectrum sleep gummies combine CBD, CBN, and a low dose of hemp-derived Δ9 THC into one product for full-night sleep architecture support. The small amount of THC is what makes a gummy "full-spectrum" and is what most customers describe as the difference between "I fell asleep" and "I slept well." Full-spectrum gummies are best for total-night sleep support and the most popular format among returning customers.
Our flagship sleep product is the 5 mg Entourage Δ9 × Sleep Gummy — Cherry Lemon:
- 5 mg Δ9 THC + 15 mg CBD + 5 mg CBN per gummy (30-pack, 150 mg total Δ9 per package)
- Built to Utah's strictest-in-the-nation hemp framework — meaning it already meets the November 12, 2026 federal hemp ceiling that's about to take most competitors off the shelf nationwide.
- Cherry Lemon flavor — our most-requested.
- Currently 10.57% of our subscription revenue. The single most-purchased SKU in the catalog.
Standard protocol: one gummy, 45–60 minutes before bed. Eat it after a small fat-containing snack (cheese, a few nuts, peanut butter) for more consistent absorption — gummies are slower-onset on an empty stomach.
How much CBD should I take for sleep?
Most customers find their sleep dose between 15 mg and 50 mg of CBD per night. Start at the lowest serving size of whichever format you choose (one softgel, one gummy, one dropper of tincture), use it consistently for 7 nights, and only adjust upward if there's no effect after a full week. Doubling the dose on night 2 because night 1 didn't work is the most common mistake we see.
A practical dosing approach:
- Days 1–7: the standard serving size of your chosen product. Same time every night.
- Days 8–14: if you've noticed nothing, increase by one half-serving. Stay there for another 7 nights.
- Days 15+: if still nothing, change format rather than chase higher doses. Some customers respond better to tincture; some to softgel; some need full-spectrum.
- If full-spectrum is working but you want less Δ9: switch to the CBD+CBN softgel without THC, not to a higher dose of the gummy.
There's no published optimal dose of CBD for sleep — clinical trials have used everything from 25 mg to 600 mg. The honest answer is that you'll find your dose within 2–3 weeks of patient experimentation.
Why does sleep architecture matter (not just sleep time)?
Sleeping for eight hours doesn't help much if you spent most of those eight hours in light sleep. "Sleep architecture" is the term for how your night is divided between light sleep, deep sleep (slow-wave), and REM. Adults need both — deep sleep for physical recovery, REM for cognitive consolidation. The reason CBN has gained attention recently is that early evidence (Kolobaric 2024) suggests CBN may specifically support deep-sleep duration, not just total sleep time.
Practical implication: if you're sleeping 7–8 hours but waking up tired, the issue is architecture, not duration. A full-spectrum CBD+CBN+Δ9 product is more likely to help than melatonin (which mostly affects sleep onset).

What about melatonin, magnesium, and other sleep supplements?
CBD and melatonin work through completely different mechanisms — and many customers do well with both, taken at the same time. Melatonin signals sleep onset (best for shift work and jet lag); CBD reduces the anxiety and physical tension that interfere with sleep (best for ongoing sleep issues). Magnesium glycinate is a useful third add-on for many people. None of these replace good sleep hygiene — fixed bedtime, dark room, no screens for 30 minutes before bed.
What we'd recommend trying before a sleep supplement:
- Same bedtime every night, including weekends. Sleep regularity matters more than sleep duration.
- Dark room. Blackout curtains, no LEDs visible from bed.
- No screens 30 minutes before bed. Read a paper book or sit quietly instead.
- Caffeine cutoff at noon if you have any sleep trouble at all.
If sleep hygiene alone gets you there, you don't need a supplement. If you've done the above for two weeks and still struggle, that's when CBD becomes useful as an addition (not a replacement).
Sleep + the rest of your day
The most common pattern we see in long-term customers: people start with a sleep product, notice their next-day stress is lower (because they slept better), and then add a daytime stress product. The pair we recommend:
- Evening: Sleep Softgels or 5 mg Entourage Δ9 × Sleep Gummy
- Morning / midday: Stress Tincture or Stress Relief Gummy

Frequently Asked Questions
Does CBD help you sleep?
Yes, for many people — though research is early. The largest case series (Shannon 2019) found 66.7% of patients with anxiety-related sleep complaints reported improved sleep within the first month of CBD use. CBD works indirectly by reducing the anxiety and physical tension that interfere with sleep, rather than acting as a direct sedative. Most customers see noticeable improvement between night 5 and night 10 of consistent use.
What's the best CBD product for sleep?
It depends on your sleep problem. For trouble falling asleep, a sublingual tincture (15–30 min onset). For trouble staying asleep, a softgel (6–8 hr release). For both, a full-spectrum CBD+CBN+Δ9 gummy. Our Sleep Softgels have the lowest subscription churn of any product we make — they're our safest first recommendation.
How much CBD should I take for sleep?
Most customers find their sleep dose between 15 mg and 50 mg of CBD per night. Start with the standard serving size of your chosen format, use it consistently for 7 nights, then adjust. There is no published "optimal" sleep dose — find yours by patient experimentation, not by doubling the dose on night 2.
CBD vs CBN for sleep — which is better?
CBD and CBN work better together than either alone. CBD addresses the anxiety component of sleep trouble; CBN appears to support deep-sleep architecture directly (Kolobaric 2024). Most modern sleep products combine them. We recommend a CBD+CBN formulation over either single cannabinoid.
How long does it take CBD to work for sleep?
A sublingual tincture: 15–30 minutes. An oral softgel: 60–90 minutes. A gummy: 45–60 minutes (slower on an empty stomach). But the cumulative sleep-quality improvement is what matters — most customers report noticeable change between night 5 and night 10 of consistent nightly dosing, not on night 1.
Will CBD show up on a drug test?
Most workplace drug tests screen for THC metabolites. All current Gold Naturals ingestible products are full-spectrum and contain at least a microdose of THC, which can trigger a positive result over consistent use. We do not currently offer a THC-free ingestible. If you are drug-tested for work, consult your employer before using; topical-only options like the Muscle + Joint Salve do not produce drug-test positives.
Can I take CBD with melatonin?
Yes. They work through different mechanisms and many customers use both. Melatonin signals sleep onset; CBD reduces sleep-interfering anxiety. There is no known interaction between them at standard doses.
Will CBD make me feel hungover the next morning?
Most customers do not experience a hangover-style effect from CBD. The full-spectrum gummies (which include 5 mg Δ9 THC) can cause grogginess the next morning at higher doses or with insufficient sleep — start at one gummy and stay there. Pure CBD softgels are the least likely to cause next-day grogginess.
Are sleep gummies legal in my state?
Hemp-derived sleep gummies are legal in most US states under the federal hemp baseline, but state rules vary. Our full-spectrum gummies are formulated to Utah's strict 5 mg per serving / 150 mg per package framework — the most-restrictive state framework — which means they're legal to ship in every state we currently serve. See our state guides for state-specific details.
What's "full spectrum" vs "broad spectrum" vs "isolate"?
Full spectrum = CBD + all other naturally-occurring cannabinoids including trace Δ9-THC. Broad spectrum = CBD + minor cannabinoids but no detectable THC. Isolate = CBD only. All current Gold Naturals products are full-spectrum — we believe the entourage effect makes full-spectrum the most effective formulation. Customers who need broad-spectrum or isolate (typically drug-tested workers) should look at our topical Muscle + Joint Salve (drug-test-safe by application route) or talk to your employer before consuming our ingestibles.
Why does Gold Naturals say "Utah Compliant" on the gummy?
We formulate our flagship Δ9 sleep gummy to Utah's hemp framework: 5 mg THC per serving, 150 mg THC per package, total-THC measurement. Utah's rules are the strictest in the country. The advantage: a Utah-compliant product is automatically compliant with the upcoming November 12, 2026 federal hemp tightening (P.L. 119-37 §781), which most competitor products are not.
