CBG and Muscle + Joint Relief: The Science Behind Gold Naturals Tinctures, Gummies & Soft Gels
Jake JonesYou already know Gold Naturals' Muscle + Joint products contain CBD. But there's another cannabinoid working alongside it that most people haven't heard of — and the science behind it is genuinely exciting. That cannabinoid is CBG — cannabigerol, often called the "mother of all cannabinoids" because the hemp plant synthesizes every other cannabinoid, including CBD and THC, from CBG.
Here's why we formulated CBG into our entire Muscle + Joint line — tinctures, gummies, and soft gel capsules — and what research tells us about how it works.

What Is CBG?
CBG is a non-intoxicating cannabinoid that appears early in the hemp plant's growth cycle. As the plant matures, enzymes convert most CBG into CBD, THC, and other cannabinoids — leaving only trace amounts of CBG in the final plant. This makes CBG-rich hemp extracts relatively rare and more expensive to produce, but the properties it offers are worth it.
Like CBD, CBG interacts with both CB1 and CB2 receptors in the endocannabinoid system. But CBG has several unique mechanisms:
- It acts as a CB2 receptor agonist — CB2 receptors are concentrated in immune tissue and are closely linked to inflammation regulation (Navarro et al., 2018)
- It inhibits the uptake of GABA, a neurotransmitter involved in muscle relaxation
- It demonstrates significant anti-inflammatory properties in preclinical research (Navarro et al., 2018), including in models of inflammatory bowel disease and neuroinflammation
- It may support bone formation and connective tissue health through CB2 receptor activity
Why CBG Specifically for Muscle + Joint Relief
The Muscle + Joint system is where CBG's CB2 receptor activity becomes especially relevant. Joints, connective tissue, and immune cells that drive the inflammatory response are all rich in CB2 receptors. When CBG activates these receptors alongside CBD, the result is a broader, more comprehensive signal to the body's natural recovery systems.
This is the entourage effect in action — the well-documented principle that cannabinoids work better together than in isolation. Gold Naturals' full-spectrum formulas leverage this by delivering CBG, CBD, CBN, and naturally occurring terpenes in a single, balanced dose.
CBG Across the Gold Naturals Muscle + Joint Line
We've built CBG into every format in the Muscle + Joint line so you can choose what fits your lifestyle:
Muscle + Joint Tincture
Our full-spectrum tincture delivers CBG + CBD sublingually — absorbed directly under the tongue into the bloodstream. This is the fastest-acting delivery method, typically felt within 15–30 minutes. Ideal for acute discomfort or active recovery after workouts.
Muscle + Joint Gummies
Our gummies deliver CBG + CBD in a convenient, pre-dosed format. Processed through the digestive system, gummies have a slower onset (45–90 minutes) but longer duration — making them ideal for sustained support throughout the day or before extended physical activity.
Muscle + Joint Soft Gels
Soft gel capsules offer the same benefits as gummies but in a precise, tasteless, travel-friendly format. Each capsule delivers a consistent dose of our full-spectrum CBG + CBD extract with no variation. Perfect for athletes and professionals who want zero guesswork in their supplementation.
What the Research Says
While CBG research is still emerging compared to CBD, the existing science is promising:
- A 2021 survey of CBG users found that 73.9% used CBG for chronic pain, with the majority reporting it more effective than conventional treatments for their condition
- Preclinical studies demonstrate CBG's ability to reduce inflammation via CB2 receptor activation in immune cells
- Research on CBG's GABA-reuptake inhibition suggests potential muscle relaxant properties — particularly relevant for tension-related joint discomfort
Our Scientific Advisor, Dr. Yaakov Waksman — who conducted postdoctoral research under Professor Raphael Mechoulam at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem — helps guide the cannabinoid profiles in our formulations to align with the current scientific evidence.
All Products Are Third-Party Lab Tested
